Porsche 992 911 Exhaust Buying Guide
A practical guide to choosing an exhaust for the Porsche 992-generation 911 Carrera, including 992.1 vs. 992.2 fitment, PSE compatibility, valved vs. non-valved systems, GPF/OPF considerations, and model-specific differences.

The Porsche 992-generation 911 covers a wide range of models, and exhaust fitment is not interchangeable across all of them.
The first thing to understand is that 992.1 vs. 992.2, Carrera vs. Turbo/GT3, Porsche Sport Exhaust (PSE), body style, and market-specific emissions equipment can all change which system fits your car.
For this guide, FacSpec is focusing primarily on the 992 Carrera family. Turbo, GT3, S/T, and other special variants should be treated as separate fitment categories.
Quick Recommendation
For Most Street-Driven Carrera Models
A valved exhaust that works with the car's factory exhaust hardware is where we would start.
That gives you more sound without turning every drive into a maximum-volume experience.
If the car has Porsche Sport Exhaust, prioritize a system that integrates cleanly with the factory valve operation.
For Maximum Sound
A non-valved X-pipe or performance exhaust can deliver a more aggressive sound, but you give up some of the adjustability that makes a valved setup useful on a street-driven 911.
Depending on the system, valve simulator hardware may also be needed when factory exhaust valves are removed.
First Identify Your 992
Before comparing exhaust systems, confirm:
- 992.1 or 992.2
- Exact model: Carrera, Carrera S, Carrera T, Carrera 4, Carrera 4S, GTS, Turbo, GT3, etc.
- Coupe, Cabriolet, or Targa
- Whether the car has Porsche Sport Exhaust
- North American or European-market specification
- Whether the car has a gasoline particulate filter (GPF/OPF)
Do not order an exhaust based only on the phrase “Porsche 992.”
The 992 platform includes multiple engine, exhaust, emissions, and chassis configurations.
992.1 vs. 992.2 Matters
The 992.1 Carrera family and 992.2 Carrera family should be treated as separate exhaust applications.
For example, SOUL lists its 992.1 Carrera systems for 2020–2024 North American Carrera models, while its 992.2 Carrera products are listed separately for 2025+ Base, S, and T models.
SOUL also specifically excludes the 992.2 Carrera GTS from its Base / S / T X-pipe application.
That means you should always verify the exact generation and submodel before ordering.
Porsche Sport Exhaust (PSE)
Porsche Sport Exhaust changes how the factory exhaust valves operate and can affect which aftermarket system makes the most sense.
A valved aftermarket exhaust can preserve some of the adjustability expected from a factory-equipped PSE car.
On newer systems, some manufacturers also design their exhausts to integrate with factory valve hardware whether the vehicle originally has PSE or not.
For example, SOUL states that its 992.2 Carrera valved exhaust integrates with factory valves and hardware on both PSE and non-PSE cars.
For FacSpec, factory valve compatibility is one of the first things we would verify before ordering.
Valved vs. Non-Valved Exhaust
Valved Exhaust
A valved system is usually the better fit for owners who want more sound without sacrificing day-to-day flexibility.
Best for:
- Daily-driven 911s
- Owners who want quiet and loud modes
- PSE-equipped cars
- Owners looking for an OEM+ experience
Non-Valved Exhaust
A non-valved system uses a fixed flow path and generally delivers a more consistent exhaust note at all times.
For example, SOUL's 992.1 Carrera X-pipe is a non-valved system and includes valve simulator brackets intended to prevent a check-engine light when factory valve hardware is removed.
Best for:
- Owners who prioritize sound over adjustability
- Cars where maximum quiet operation is not important
- Drivers who specifically prefer a simpler exhaust configuration
North America vs. Europe
Market specification matters.
SOUL's 992.1 Carrera exhaust systems are specifically listed for North American vehicles without gasoline particulate filters.
The company advises owners of 2019+ vehicles outside North America to confirm compatibility with factory particulate-filter equipment before ordering.
GPF/OPF-equipped cars can require different exhaust hardware or product versions.
Do not assume a U.S.-market exhaust listing automatically fits a European-market 992.
Carrera Is Not Turbo or GT3
The 992 Carrera family, Turbo family, and GT3 family use different exhaust configurations.
Akrapovič, for example, lists separate exhaust systems for the 992 Turbo/Turbo S and separate systems again for GT3 applications.
That is why FacSpec would never treat “992 exhaust” as one universal product category.
Always shop by exact model and generation.
Stainless Steel vs. Titanium
Stainless Steel
Stainless systems generally offer a strong balance of durability, cost, and performance.
They are common across premium aftermarket exhaust manufacturers and are usually less expensive than full titanium systems.
Titanium
Titanium systems reduce weight and offer a more premium construction, but they typically come at a significantly higher price.
Akrapovič's 992.2 Carrera Slip-On system, for example, is made from titanium and publishes a weight reduction of approximately 6.1 kg compared with the stock system.
Material should be chosen based on your priorities, not simply because titanium is more expensive.
Do You Need a Tune?
Not necessarily.
Many cat-back and slip-on exhaust systems do not require ECU tuning when installed as designed.
Akrapovič specifically states that its 992.2 Carrera Slip-On is a plug-and-play installation and does not require remapping.
Changes to catalytic converters, downpipes, or emissions equipment are a separate issue and can introduce tuning, legal, and emissions considerations.
This guide focuses on downstream exhaust systems rather than emissions-system modifications.
Before Ordering
Confirm all of the following:
- 992.1 or 992.2
- Exact Carrera submodel
- Coupe, Cabriolet, or Targa
- PSE or non-PSE configuration
- North American or European-market specification
- GPF/OPF equipment
- Valved or non-valved exhaust preference
- Whether valve simulators or controllers are required
- Whether factory tips are reused
- Exact manufacturer part number
- Local sound and emissions requirements
Do not order based on sound clips alone.
Exact fitment comes first.
FacSpec Recommendation
For most street-driven 992 Carrera owners, we would start with a valved exhaust matched to the exact generation, submodel, PSE configuration, and market specification.
It provides the best balance between sound and daily usability.
A non-valved X-pipe or performance system makes more sense when the owner deliberately wants a louder, less adjustable setup.
For 992.1 cars, pay particular attention to North American vs. GPF-equipped market differences.
For 992.2 cars, make sure the system is explicitly listed for your exact Base, S, T, GTS, or other variant rather than assuming all 992.2 Carrera models share the same hardware.

FACSPEC VERDICT
Match the exhaust to your exact 992 configuration.
For most street-driven 992 Carrera models, start with a valved exhaust matched to the exact generation, submodel, PSE configuration, and market specification. Verify GPF/OPF compatibility before ordering, and treat Turbo, GT3, GTS, and other special models as separate fitment applications.
NEED A SECOND SET OF EYES?
Check fitment before you order.
If your exact car, options, wheel/tire setup, or supporting hardware makes the answer unclear, send FACSPEC the details. If we cannot verify it, we will say so.
