Wheel spacers are one of the easiest ways to improve the stance of the BMW G8X M3/M4 while keeping the factory wheels.

The important part is choosing a setup that looks right without assuming one spacer size works perfectly for every car. Tire brand, wheel setup, suspension height, and alignment can all affect clearance.

Quick Fitment

12mm Front / 12mm Rear

A strong OEM+ starting point for many G8X owners.

IND currently offers 12mm front and 12mm rear as its recommended fitment in the G8X M3/M4 Essentials Kit.

This setup brings the factory wheels farther out toward the fenders without going straight to the most aggressive option.

Best for:
Owners looking for a noticeable but relatively conservative stance improvement.

15mm Front / 15mm Rear

A more aggressive square setup that pushes the wheels farther outward.

IND currently offers this as the aggressive option in its G8X Essentials Kit.

Best for:
Owners prioritizing a fuller, more aggressive stance and who are willing to verify tire and fender-liner clearance.

Vehicle Fitment

This guide applies to the G8X M3/M4 platform, including:

  • BMW G80 M3
  • BMW G81 M3 Touring
  • BMW G82 M4
  • BMW G83 M4 Convertible
  • Competition models

The G8X platform uses:

  • 5x112 bolt pattern
  • M14x1.25 wheel hardware

Always confirm compatibility with the specific spacer manufacturer before ordering.

Tire Choice Matters

Spacer size alone does not determine whether a setup will rub.

Tire manufacturers use different shoulder profiles, even when the listed tire size is identical. That means two G8X cars running the same spacer thickness can have different clearance.

This matters particularly at the front.

IND notes that some G8X vehicles equipped with factory Pirelli tires may experience light rubbing at the front fender liner when using 12mm or larger front spacers.

Owner reports also show different results depending on:

  • Tire brand
  • Tire size
  • Wheel design
  • Ride height
  • Suspension setup
  • Alignment

Because of that, there is no spacer size that should be treated as universally rub-free.

FacSpec Recommendation

For a factory-wheel G8X, we would treat 12mm front / 12mm rear as the baseline OEM+ setup, not a guarantee of zero rubbing.

If your car is equipped with factory Pirelli tires, pay particular attention to front clearance before choosing 12mm or larger front spacers.

If you want a more aggressive appearance, 15mm front / 15mm rear can provide a noticeably fuller stance, but clearance becomes more dependent on the individual wheel, tire, and suspension combination.

The goal should not be to install the largest spacer possible.

The goal is to achieve the stance you want while maintaining proper clearance.

What You’ll Need

A complete spacer installation should include:

  • 2 front wheel spacers
  • 2 rear wheel spacers
  • Correct-length extended wheel bolts or compatible wheel studs
  • Hub-centric spacers
  • Any manufacturer-specified installation hardware
  • Anti-seize only where recommended by the spacer manufacturer

For example, Future Classic spacer kits sold through IND include the spacers, extended wheel bolts, hub bolts, and anti-seize.

Extended Wheel Bolts Matter

Installing a spacer moves the wheel farther away from the hub.

Because of this, the wheel hardware needs to maintain the correct amount of thread engagement.

Do not simply install a spacer and reuse factory-length wheel bolts unless the spacer manufacturer specifically confirms that the design allows it.

Use the hardware specified for the spacer thickness being installed.

Before Ordering

Confirm all of the following:

  • Vehicle model
  • Factory or aftermarket wheels
  • Wheel width and offset
  • Tire brand
  • Tire size
  • Suspension height
  • Spacer thickness
  • Required extended hardware

If the vehicle is lowered or running wider-than-stock tires, clearance should be checked more carefully.

What About 15mm Front / 12mm Rear?

You may also see 15mm front / 12mm rear recommended for the G8X.

IND's earlier G8X spacer guide listed this combination as its standard fitment, while its current G8X Essentials Kit uses 12mm front / 12mm rear as the recommended pairing.

That is a good example of why spacer recommendations should be treated as a starting point rather than an absolute rule.

Product offerings, tire combinations, and real-world fitment experience evolve over time.

FacSpec Verdict

For most owners looking for an OEM+ stance, 12mm front / 12mm rear is where we would start the comparison.

But we would not call 12mm front universally rub-free.

If the car is running factory Pirelli tires, is lowered, or uses a different wheel and tire setup, front clearance deserves extra attention.

For owners who want a more aggressive stance, 15mm front / 15mm rear is an available option, but it should be chosen with a better understanding of the car's specific setup.

As FacSpec builds its fitment database, this guide will be expanded with additional wheel, tire, suspension, and spacer combinations.

FACSPEC VERDICT

Start with 12mm / 12mm.

Check front clearance carefully with Pirelli tires or lowered suspension. Move to 15mm / 15mm only if you want a more aggressive stance and have verified your wheel, tire and suspension clearance.

NEED A SECOND SET OF EYES?

Check fitment before you order.

If your exact car, options, wheel/tire setup, or supporting hardware makes the answer unclear, send FACSPEC the details. If we cannot verify it, we will say so.
