BMW G8X M3/M4 Intake Buying Guide: AWE vs Eventuri vs aFe
A practical comparison of popular BMW G8X M3/M4 intake approaches from AWE, Eventuri, and aFe, including fitment, airflow design, published performance claims, sound, supporting hardware, and who each setup makes the most sense for.

The BMW G8X M3/M4 has no shortage of intake options. The problem is that the products are not all trying to do the exact same thing.
Some prioritize maximum airflow and future power headroom. Others put more emphasis on sound, factory-like fitment, easier installation, or price. The right intake depends on how the car is used and what you plan to do with it later.
This guide compares three common approaches from AWE, Eventuri, and aFe POWER. Manufacturer dyno and flow figures below are their own published results, not independent FACSPEC testing.
Quick Recommendation
Best balance of sound, fitment, and a straightforward install: AWE S-FLO
AWE's G8X S-FLO Carbon Intake uses large oil-less filters, carbon airboxes, factory mounting locations, and removable machined turbo couplers. AWE publishes gains of up to +14 wheel horsepower and +9 lb-ft on an otherwise stock car and states that no tune is required.
For an owner who wants a premium carbon intake, more induction sound, and a relatively straightforward bolt-on path, this is where we would start the comparison.
Best for maximum airflow headroom and a future high-power build: Eventuri
Eventuri's system is a more comprehensive redesign that replaces the factory airboxes and turbo inlet path. Eventuri publishes a 40% increase in filtration area, turbo inlet cross-sectional area increased by up to 160%, and manufacturer-reported gains of 13–18 hp and 12–16 lb-ft on a stock tune.
If the long-term plan includes upgraded turbos or a high-output S58 build, the Eventuri system deserves a serious look because the intake and inlet path are engineered together.
Best value-focused option: aFe Momentum GT
aFe's Momentum GT offers another complete intake approach without moving into the same price territory as some full carbon systems. aFe publishes gains of up to +13 hp and +15 lb-ft and states that its system outflows the factory intake by 43% in its testing.
For an owner who wants a functional airflow upgrade and stronger induction sound while putting less money into carbon construction, aFe is the value-oriented option we would compare.
Fitment Comes First
Do not assume every product marketed as a “G8X intake” fits every G8X body style and model year.
Before ordering, confirm:
- G80 M3, G82 M4, or G83 M4 Convertible
- Exact model year
- Any CS / CSL-specific bracing or intake hardware
- Factory or upgraded turbochargers
- Whether the chosen system replaces or retains the turbo inlet hardware
- Emissions legality in the state where the car is registered
AWE specifically markets its current S-FLO system for the G80 M3, G82 M4, and G87 M2 and notes that it is engineered to fit under the Competition Sport brace. Eventuri publishes separate fitment and part-number information for its G8X products. aFe publishes its Momentum GT application for the S58-powered G80/G82/G83 family. Verify the exact manufacturer application before checkout.
AWE S-FLO Carbon Intake
The current AWE G8X system uses two large inverted cone filters with 4.5-inch outlets. AWE states that each filter has 142% more surface area than stock.
The airboxes are designed to shield the filters from engine-bay heat while louvers direct more induction sound toward the cabin. Machined aluminum couplers connect the system to the turbos and are removable for future big-power configurations.
What stands out:
- Premium 2x2 carbon construction
- Large washable, oil-less filters
- Strong emphasis on intake sound
- Factory mounting locations
- No tune required according to AWE
- Removable turbo couplers for future upgrades
Best for: owners who want a premium carbon system with aggressive sound and a relatively straightforward bolt-on design.
Eventuri Carbon Intake
Eventuri takes a different approach by redesigning more of the airflow path from the filters toward the turbochargers.
The system uses Eventuri's carbon Venturi filter housings, bespoke dry filters, carbon inlet ducting and tube work, and enlarged turbo inlet components. Eventuri says its goal was not only to improve a stock car but also to provide airflow capacity for builds well beyond factory power levels.
What stands out:
- 100% pre-preg carbon construction in the primary carbon components
- Integrated intake and turbo-inlet approach
- Published filtration-area increase of up to 40%
- Published turbo-inlet area increase of up to 160%
- Designed with higher-power builds in mind
- Gloss and matte carbon versions are available
Best for: owners who prioritize airflow capacity, premium construction, and a future high-output build over keeping the intake upgrade relatively simple or inexpensive.
aFe Momentum GT
aFe's Momentum GT gives G8X owners another complete intake option with a stronger focus on performance-per-dollar.
aFe publishes a measured airflow figure of 670 CFM at 7 inches H2O and says the system outflows the factory intake by 43%. Its published dyno result is up to +13 hp and +15 lb-ft.
What stands out:
- Lower-cost entry point than many full carbon systems
- Washable performance filters
- Clear inspection windows on the airbox
- Published flow and dyno data
- Direct application for S58-powered G8X cars
Best for: owners who want a real intake upgrade without paying primarily for carbon-fiber construction.
Which One Would FACSPEC Choose?
There is not one universally “best” intake.
- AWE: our starting point for a street car where sound, premium construction, easy integration, and a clean carbon engine bay matter.
- Eventuri: our starting point when maximum airflow headroom and future turbo / high-power plans matter more than price.
- aFe: our starting point when value and functional airflow improvement matter more than having a full carbon system.
If the car is staying close to stock power, we would not choose solely based on the largest advertised flow number. Fitment, heat management, filter serviceability, sound, construction, emissions legality, and future plans all matter.
Do You Need a Tune?
AWE explicitly states that its current G8X S-FLO intake does not require a tune. Intake-only upgrades from other manufacturers are also commonly designed as direct bolt-ons, but always follow the requirements for the exact system and the complete hardware combination installed on your car.
Once turbochargers, downpipes, fueling, or other major engine hardware are changed, tuning requirements become a separate question.
Emissions Compliance
Intake emissions legality can vary by product and by state. A product fitting physically does not automatically mean it is legal for street use where the car is registered.
For example, AWE currently labels its G8X S-FLO intake as 49-state legal and not approved for sale or street use in California. Always check the manufacturer's current emissions statement before purchasing.
Before Ordering
- Confirm exact chassis, body style, and model year
- Confirm whether CS / CSL hardware changes the application
- Confirm factory vs. upgraded turbo configuration
- Confirm whether the intake replaces the turbo inlet
- Confirm emissions legality for your registration state
- Confirm what filters and couplers are included
- Confirm replacement-filter availability and service requirements
- Confirm the exact manufacturer part number

FACSPEC VERDICT
Pick the intake around your actual build plan.
For a street-driven G8X, AWE is a strong starting point for sound and straightforward integration, Eventuri makes the most sense when airflow headroom and future power goals dominate the decision, and aFe is the value-oriented option. Verify exact body-style fitment and emissions legality before ordering.
NEED A SECOND SET OF EYES?
Check fitment before you order.
If your exact car, options, wheel/tire setup, or supporting hardware makes the answer unclear, send FACSPEC the details. If we cannot verify it, we will say so.
